English Translation
Serving at the court,
my age shall never end,
O gate of heaven,
so long as the moon and sun
that rise from you shall shine.
Meaning
Serving at court, my days shall never end, so long as the moon and sun that come forth from the gate of heaven continue to shine.
Commentary
Miscellaneous Poems 671

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "A poem of felicitation"
Serving the imperial court, the poet says his days will never end as long as the moon and sun shining from the gate of heaven continue to shine, blessing his service to a court that lasts with heaven and earth.
The Ruijū text places this and the next poem in its section of celebration under the title "Poems of blessing."

Line 1 means "being at the court," six syllables.
Line 2 means "my age will not end," with a break after the line, nearly the same as line 2 of the next poem, 672.
Line 3 means "O gate of heaven," ya exclamatory.
Line 4 means "of the moon and sun that rise," where the preceding poem named the moon alone.
Line 5 means "as long as they shine," in inversion, pairing with "as long as it remains" in the preceding poem.
