Miscellaneous Poems 672
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "A poem of felicitation"
As the little stream of Semi by the Kamo shrine flows on unceasing, so neither the lord's reign nor the poet's own life will end. Adding "my lord's reign" to "my age" in the preceding poem, it blesses both together.
It was included in the imperial anthology Shokukokin Wakashū. It uses the opening words of Kamo no Chōmei's Shinkokinshū poem on the stream of Semi at Ishikawa.
Line 1 means "my lord's reign too."
Line 2 means "nor my age shall end," with a break after the line, nearly the same as line 2 of the preceding poem.
Line 3 means "O Ishikawa," another name for the Kamo River, ya exclamatory.
Line 4 means "of the stream of Semi," by the Kamo shrine.
Line 5 means "for I think it will not cease," the inversion giving the reason last.
