Amata tabi yukiausaka no sekimizu ni ima wa kagiri no kage zo kanashiki
In the spring at the Ōsaka Barrier, which I passed so many times coming and going, my reflection, seen now for the last time, fills me with sorrow.

Senzai Wakashu - Ōe no Kinsuke
Omou koto nakute ya haru o sugusamashi ukiyo hedatsuru kasumi nariseba
Would I have passed the spring without a care in my heart, if only this haze were one that shut away the sorrowful world?
Senzai Wakashu - Minamoto no Nakamasa
Chiru o mite kaeru kokoro ya sakurabana mukashi ni kawaru shirushi naruran
This heart that watches the blossoms fall and simply goes home, O cherry blossoms, is it the sign that I have changed from what I was?
Senzai Wakashu - Saigyō
Hana ni somu kokoro no ikade nokoriken sutehatete ki to omou wagami ni
How could a heart so steeped in the blossoms still remain in me, who believed I had cast off everything for good?
Senzai Wakashu - Saigyō
Hotoke ni wa sakura no hana o tatematsure waga nochi no yo o hito toburawaba
Offer cherry blossoms to the Buddha, if anyone should mourn me and pray for my life in the world to come.
Senzai Wakashu - Saigyō
Kono haru zo omoi wa kaesu sakurabana munashiki iro ni someshi kokoro o
It is this spring that I turn my thoughts around, O cherry blossoms, the heart I once dyed in your empty colors.
Senzai Wakashu - Jakuzen
Yo no naka o tsune naki mono to omowazu wa ikade ka hana no chiru ni taemashi
Had I not come to see this world as a thing that never stays the same, how could I ever bear to watch the blossoms fall?
Senzai Wakashu - Jakuzen
Kakubakari ukiyo no sue ni ika ni shite haru wa sakura no nao niouran
In these last days of a world so full of sorrow, how is it that the cherries still glow in their beauty when spring comes?
Senzai Wakashu - Unknown Poet
Furinikeri mukashi o shiraba sakurabana chiri no sue o mo aware to wa miyo
How old it has all grown. If you remember the days of old, O cherry blossoms, look with pity even on this last of the line, scattered like the dust.
Senzai Wakashu - Fujiwara no Shunzei
Yamazakura hana o aruji to omowazu wa hito o matsubeki shiba no io ka wa
If I did not think of the mountain cherries as the master here, would this brushwood hut be a place to wait for guests? Surely not.
Senzai Wakashu - Minamoto no Sadamune
