Miscellaneous Poems 952
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
I will simply leave tonight's moon to the clouds, since resenting them will not make them clear, the poet says, giving up his grudge against the clouds that hide the moon and leaving things as they are. Poems on the moon hidden by clouds or rain continue from here to 955.
First line, “kumo ni tada”: simply to the clouds.
Second line, “koyoi no tsuki o”: tonight's moon.
Third line, “makaseten”: ten expresses firm intention; I will leave it to them; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “itou tote shimo”: however I may loathe them.
Fifth line, “harenu mono yue”: since they will not clear, inverted to give the reason.
