Elsewhere, those who watch
the moon must loathe you too, so
surely as I do;
clouds, then, drift only here,
in the sky above my hut.

Miscellaneous Poems 953
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
People watching for the moon elsewhere must loathe the clouds as much as I do; clouds, drift only here, in my sky, the poet says, willing to bear the hidden moon himself so that others may see it. It takes up 'itou' from the preceding poem.
First line, “tsuki o miru”: watching the moon.
Second line, “hoka mo sa koso wa”: hoka is people elsewhere; sa koso wa, surely so.
Third line, “itourame”: the perfective closing koso; they must loathe them, taking up itou; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “kumo tada koko no”: clouds, only here, a call to the clouds.
Fifth line, “sora ni tadayoe”: an imperative, drift in this sky.
