Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
With no break anywhere, the clouds have filled the sky; I will give up seeing the moon, the poet says. Just as he bade the clouds drift only over his sky, the whole sky is now covered, and at last he resigns himself to missing the moon.
First line, “harema naku”: without a break.
Second line, “kumo koso sora ni”: koso is answered by kere in the third line.
Third line, “michinikere”: they have filled it; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “tsuki miru koto wa”: seeing the moon.
Fifth line, “omoitaenan”: nan expresses firm intention; I will give it up.
