Miscellaneous Poems 1439
Headnote: none
The wind spreads autumn's colors across the moor, and the sound of the showers he hears on his sleeves, the poet says.
The late-autumn scene is captured in pairs, the sight of colored leaves spread by the wind and the sound of showers heard on the sleeves. "Hearing the showers on my sleeves" seems also to echo tears wetting the sleeves with the rain.
First line, “aki no iro wa”: autumn's colors, the leaves; the line has an extra syllable.
Second line, “kaze zo nomose ni”: nomose is the whole moor; zo is answered by the attributive shikiwatasu.
Third line, “shikiwatasu”: spreads them all across; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “shigure wa oto o”: the showers, their sound, paired with "wind."
Fifth line, “tamoto ni zo kiku”: zo is answered by the attributive kiku.
