Love Poems 484
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Composed on the theme of love at famous places"
Like the seaweed of the rocky shore at Tago Bay floating and swaying on the waves, the poet's love cannot settle.
According to the notes in the base text, the Teika text differs in line 2. Here the base text is followed.
Line 1 names Tago Bay, a poetic place in Suruga, with an extra syllable.
Line 2 names the fine seaweed of the rough shore.
Line 3 means "upon the waves."
Line 4 means "floating and swaying," overlaid with an unsettled love; like ukite ya in 442, it entrusts love to something adrift.
Line 5 is the same last line as 431.
