Love Poems 500
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Hidden love"
Like the bamboo grass on the moor of Ōaraki that keeps its color though drenched by cold showers, the poet will not let his love show though soaked with tears. Beginning with the same line as the preceding poem, it repeats the vow of hidden love.
Line 1 is the same as line 1 of the preceding poem.
Line 2 names the moor of Ōaraki, a poetic place in Yamashiro, with an extra syllable; the same place as in 454.
Line 3 names a field of low bamboo grass.
Line 4 means "though drenched through," overlaid with tears.
Line 5: ya is rhetorical, "would I let it show? never"; the same last line as 429.
