Love Poems 531
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Love, on dew"
As the pampas grass in the clover-blooming fields droops of itself under the weight of dew and puts forth its plumes, so the poet, unable to bear the weight of tears, wonders whether his love will come into the open.
Line 1 means "of the autumn bush clover," taking up the clover of the two preceding poems.
Line 2 names the pampas grass in fields of blossoms.
Line 3 means "since the dew is heavy," o ... mi expressing cause.
Line 4 means "drooping of itself," onore meaning of its own accord.
Line 5 plays on ho, plumes and outward show; ya binds the attributive namu. It closes the three poems on dew.
