Hanahada mo yo fukete na yuki michi no he no yuzasa no ue ni shimo no furu yo o
Do not leave so very late at night—on a night like this, when frost falls on the bamboo grass by the roadside.
Sasa no ha ni hadare furiōi kenaba ka mo wasuremu to ieba mashite omōyu
When I say, "Once the thin snow covering the bamboo leaves has melted, perhaps I will forget," I think of you all the more.
Arare furi itaku kaze fuki samuki yo ya hatano ni koyoi waga hitori nemu
On this cold night of falling hail and fierce wind, must I sleep alone tonight in the fields of Hatano?
Yonabari no nogi ni furiōu shirayuki no ichishiroku shi mo koimu are ka mo
Like the white snow covering the trees of the fields at Yonabari, would I love so plainly that all could see?
Hitome mishi hito ni kouraku amagirashi furikuru yuki no kenubeku omōyu
My longing for one I saw only once—it feels as though I might vanish, like the snow that falls from a clouded sky.
Omoiizuru toki wa subenami toyokuni no yufuyama yuki no kenubeku omōyu
When I remember you, I am helpless—I feel I might vanish like the snow on Mount Yufu in Toyokuni.
Ime no goto kimi o aimite amagirashi furikuru yuki no kenubeku omōyu
Having met you as fleetingly as in a dream, I feel I might vanish, like the snow that falls from a clouded sky.
Waga seko ga koto uruwashimi idete yukaba mobiki shirukemu yuki na furi so ne
If I go out, drawn by my beloved's sweet words, the trail of my skirt will show plainly—O snow, please do not fall.
Ume no hana sore tomo miezu furu yuki no ichishirokemu na matsukai yaraba
Like the falling snow that cannot be told from plum blossoms, it would become plain to all, if I were to send a messenger.
Amagirai furikuru yuki no kenamedomo kimi ni awamu to nagaraewataru
Though I might vanish like the snow that falls from a clouded sky, I go on living, hoping to meet you.
Ukanerau tomiyama yuki no ichishiroku koiba imo ga na hito shiramu ka mo
If I love as plainly as the snow on Mount Tomi, where hunters watch for tracks, will people come to know my beloved's name?
Amaobune hatsuse no yama ni furu yuki no kenagaku koishi kimi ga oto zo suru
Like the snow that falls on the mountain of Hatsuse, I have longed for you for so many days—and now I hear the sound of your coming!
Wazami no mine yukisugite furu yuki no itoi mo nashi to mōse sono ko ni
Like the snow that falls as it passes over the peak of Wazami—tell that girl there is nothing wrong with me.
Waga yado ni sakitaru ume o tsukuyo yomi yoiyoi misemu kimi o koso mate
The plum has bloomed at my home, and the moonlit nights are so fine—it is you I am waiting for, to show it to every evening.
Ashihiki no yama no arashi wa fukanedomo kimi naki yoi wa kanete samushi mo
Though no storm wind blows down from the mountains, the night without you is cold even before it begins.
