- Kinyo Wakashu
Hana mo mina kimi ga chitose o matsu nareba izure no haru ka iro mo kawaramu
Since every flower, like the evergreen pine, waits for our lord's thousand years, in what spring could their color ever change?
Kinyo Wakashu - Minamoto no Nakamasa
Ika bakari kami mo ureshi to mikasayama futaba no matsu no chiyo no keshiki o
How gladly the god of Mount Mikasa must be watching the young two-leaved pine, already showing signs of the thousand ages to come.
Kinyo Wakashu - Suo no Naishi
Kimi ga yo wa iku yorozuyo ka kasanubeki itsunukigawa no tsuru no kegoromo
How many ten thousand ages will our lord's reign layer one upon another, like the feather robes of the cranes on the Itsunuki River?
Kimi ga yo wa ama no koyane no mikoto yori iwai zo someshi hisashikare to wa
Ever since the age of the god Ame no Koyane, people have offered the blessing that our lord's reign may long endure.
Kinyo Wakashu - Yushi Naishinno-ke no Koben
Our lord's reign will have no end, so long as the morning sun shines on the peak of Mount Mikasa.
Kinyo Wakashu - Oe no Masafusa
Wisteria is meant to be seen hanging for ages upon the pine, the pine that awaits our lord's thousand years.
Kimi ga yo wa tomi no ogawa no mizu sumite chitose o fu tomo taeji to zo omou
Like the clear waters of the Tomi stream, our lord's reign, I believe, will never cease though a thousand years go by.
Our lord's reign is bound to endure for long; surely the sun goddess who shines in heaven knows it from the sky above.
Kinyo Wakashu - Fujiwara no Tametada
Yuki tsumoru toshi no shirushi ni itodoshiku chitose no matsu no hana saku zo miru
As a sign of a bountiful year, the snow piles up, and all the more I see the thousand-year pine bursting into flower.
Tsumorubeshi yuki tsumorubeshi kimi ga yo wa matsu no hana saku chitabi miru made
Pile up, snow, pile up; for our lord's reign will last until we have seen the pine burst into bloom a thousand times.
Nagahama no masago no kazu mo nani narazu tsukisezu miyuru kimi ga miyo kana
Even the countless grains of sand on the beach of Nagahama are as nothing; our lord's reign looks as though it will never end.
Yorozuyo no tameshi to miyuru matsu no ue ni yuki sae tsumoru toshi ni mo aru kana
On the pine that seems a model for ten thousand ages, even the snow is piling up; what a year this is.
To the morning sun rising in cloudless glory, it is you who will give your service, for ten thousand ages to come.
Kinyo Wakashu - Minamoto no Toshiyori
How unkind you are! Without even seeing the flowers of the flowering capital, your heart goes hurrying off to the waters of the seedling beds.
Into the seedling-bed waters I had only heard of as someone else's affair, alas, I myself must now step down, and I have let even my name drift away as one who goes down to the provinces.
Kaerubeki tabi no wakare to nagusamuru kokoro ni tagau namida narikeri
I console myself that this is the parting of a journey from which you will surely return, yet the tears that fall go against that very heart.
Kinyo Wakashu - Fujiwara no Yorimune
