Waga koi wa natsuno no susuki shigekeredo ho ni shi araneba tou hito mo nashi
My love is like the pampas grass of the summer fields, growing thick, but since it has not yet put out its plumes and shown itself, no one comes to ask after me.

Like pampas grass bending in the autumn wind, not putting forth its plumes, I keep my love hidden and brood with my heart in disarray.

Though the frost on the autumn hills where the cold showers fall may bring out the leaves' colors, I will never let my love show in my face.
